A Fianna Fáil TD has today criticised the delay in agreeing measures on homelessness and rent certainty, telling Government Deputies to "get down and do ye're job".

A Labour spokesman has denied claims from Fianna Fáil's Barry Cowen, who says that Labour's party executive approved a compromise plan last week.

Deputy Cowen says the announcement is being delayed only as a PR exercise by the ministers involved.

"I'm simply saying, for God's sake will get ye get down and do ye're job," said Deputy Cowen.

"Do what ye were elected to do, and do what the Dáil gave ye the privilege to do, and address and use the funds that are available to address this issue in a real and meaningful way for people who are in an unfortunate situation and are facing continued homelessness and continued crisis in their own lives as they approach Christmas."

Government sources say "progress is being made" after a meeting between Fine Gael and Labour ministers over the housing crisis.

It is understood that Environment Minister Alan Kelly and Finance Minister Michael Noonan met to discuss the matter after a Cabinet sub-committee this afternoon.

Officials from the Taoiseach and Tánaiste's offices were also present.

However there was no substantive agreement on issues like rent certainty, and more meetings are expected later in the week.
