Any voting pact a negative says Róisín Shortall

The Co-Leader of the Social Democrats Roisin Shortall has said a vote transfer pact with any party, including Sinn Féin, would have been a 'negative' for the party.

Her comments come after the Social Democrats declined to join the trade union-led Right2Change group - which Sinn Féin signed up to earlier this week.

The deadline to join the vote transfer initiative expires today and a number of TDs have yet to declare whether or not they will be part of it.

The Social Democrats' Roisin Shortall has said her party views any voting pact as a 'negative'.

“We’re not intending to enter into any kind of pre-election pact with any other party,” Ms Shortall said.

“That’s our position and while we would be supportive of a lot of the stuff in the document that has been produced, it is a manifesto.”
