Young Irishman dies in San Francisco

A 23-year old Irishman has died in San Francisco, California, it has emerged tonight.

Dean MacCearaín, from Co Monaghan, is thought to have travelled to the US to attend his brother’s wedding.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to his family.

The cause of his death is not yet known.

Mr MacCearaín featured in The Queen of Ireland, a documentary on Panti Bliss and the successful Yes campaign in the recent Marriage Equality referendum.

Panti Bliss tonight posted a tribute to the deceased man on Facebook, describing him as a “smart, quick-witted, funny, charming young man”.
