Talks aimed at averting rail strike to resume later

Last -ditch talks aimed at averting strike action at Irish Rail tomorrow will resume at 11.30am today.

Officials from the company met with representatives of the National Bus and Rail Workers Union and SIPTU until 3.15am this morning, when talks were adjourned without agreement.

Train drivers are planning to strike for three hours during the morning rush-hour tomorrow, in a row based on past productivity.

Drivers will engage in a further day of action on November 6 unless the dispute is resolved.

"Due to the notice of industrial action, Iarnród Éireann cannot currently guarantee services across DART, Commuter and Intercity on the mornings of October 23 and November 6, and we apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused," said a statement from the company.
