Fianna Fáil nominates GP to contest Seanad bye-election
Fianna Fáil has nominated a GP to contest the Seanad bye-election against Maíria Cahill.
Dr Keith Swanick is to run for the seat, vacated by Labour's Jimmy Harte, who has suffered serious health issues in recent months.
Dr Swanick is married with one child and runs a GP practice in Belmullet County Mayo.
It is expected that well known campaigner against sexual abuse Ms Cahill will be supported in her bid by Fine Gael in the election.
