A former MEP and junior minister has been selected to run in the general election for Fianna Fáil.

Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher (pictured) will feature on the ticket in Donegal alongside sitting TD Charlie McConalogue.

The pair were nominated at a convention held this afternoon.

Fianna Fáil currently only holds one seat in Donegal, where two three-seat constituencies are being merged into a single five-seater.
