Architect responsible for Longboat Quay would ‘move in if he had the money'

The man responsible for the design of Longboat Quay has challenged claims that walls, smoke vents and fire doors are inadequate.

Architecht Eugene van Jaarsveld said he would move into the controversial Dublin development immediately if he had enough money.

Last week 900 residents were given a month to carry out remedial works totalling €4.75m to bring the building up to fire safety standards, or face eviction.

The landlords, Dublin Docklands Development Authority offered to pay 58% of the cost, but €2m still needs to be financed by management and apartment owners.

However, speaking to the Sunday Times today Van Jaarsveld says he's 'sceptical' about the extent of supposed dangers.
