Preparations 'well underway' for 2016 election, says Justice Minister

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has said preparations are well underway for a general election in 2016.

Frances Fitzgerald's comments come as speculation continues about the possibility of a November election.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny was in the Phoenix Park at an event this morning, but ruled out visiting the Áras to dissolve the Dáil.

Minister Fitzgerald has said they are working on the basis the election will not be for a few months yet.

“Well it’s very fair to say that both parties have been making preparations and that we are well advanced," Minister Fitzgerald said.

“No question of that because everybody knows there is an election due but as the Taoiseach has consistently said that will be next year and both parties are planning for that.”
