Residents at Dublin apartment block facing evacuation

Talks continue today on the Longboat Quay apartment complex in Dublin, as residents face evacuation over fire safety issues.

Residents of the 299 apartments, the Dublin Docklands authority and the receiver for developer Bernard McNamara, are meeting to discuss how the €4 m needed for remedial works can be found.

Those living in the apartments are facing evacuation on the orders of Dublin Fire Brigade unless the cost of the work is met.

Resident Richard Eardley said that an agreement must be reached on funding quickly.

"The point of view from the fire brigade is that they need to see the works happening," he said.

"So we know what works need to be done, we've had tenders in, we've got a sort of preferred tender option, so a contractor can be appointed.

"So what needs to be sorted out - and this needs to happen really, really, really quickly - is that the funding and financing needs to be proposed by the other parties and...all those three parties than agreeing that."
