Gardaí liaise with Spanish police in Hutch murder probe

Investigations are underway after a well-known Dublin criminal was shot dead on Spain's Costa del Sol yesterday morning.

Gary Hutch - the nephew of former Dublin criminal Gerry "the Monk" Hutch - died after a masked gunman shot him in an apartment complex in Miraflores near Marbella on the Costa del Sol.

Gardaí are liaising with the Spanish authorities in the investigation into the killing.

The 34-year-old convicted armed thief, who had lived in Spain for eight years, was chased through the complex by the gunman who fired a number of bullets in a targeted attack.

Hutch, originally from Champions Avenue, in Dublin's north inner-city had made a run for it and successfully got some distance away from his killer, but was eventually shot three times.

It is understood paramedics tried to revive him, but he died at the scene.

It is believed the murder is connected to a disagreement with a criminal gang. Hutch is understood to have received threats to his life recently, and had survived previous attempts to kill him.
