Taoiseach ‘disappointed’ at Web Summit move from Ireland

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said he is “disappointed” at the Web Summit organisers’ decision to move the convention from Ireland.

Founder Paddy Cosgrave has confirmed the 2016 event will take place in Lisbon - because of its great “transport and hotel infrastructure” and start-of-the art venue.

The Taoiseach has said he hopes the Web Summit will return to Ireland in the future.

He also claimed the Government did not fail to meet the Web Summit's demands.

“It’s disappointing to find that they’ve made the decision to move for the next three years, but that’s a choice they’ve got to make,” said Kenny.

“It’s not a question of not meeting demands, I think it’s a question for the company themselves – it’s their choice.”
