Jason Corbett funeral to take place today

The funeral takes place later today of father-of-two Jason Corbett, whose children were at the centre of a bitter custody battle in the US.

Mr Corbett was found with critical head injuries at his home in North Carolina, on August 2. US police believe he was beaten about the head with a baseball bat.

His family secured the guardianship of his Irish-born son Jack and daughter Sarah, despite a legal fight from the children's stepmother Molly Martens who has lodged an appeal.

Mr Corbett's family have waited 24 days to lay him to rest until his children returned to Ireland last weekend.

A piper will play and two white birds will be released into the air at Castlemungret Cemetery following midday requiem mass.
