A viable pipe bomb has been discovered in north Belfast.

Homes were evacuated and roads closed after the suspect device was found at Rosapenna Street.

Army technical experts examined the object and declared it to be a viable explosive.

The security alert has now ended.

Police Service of Northern Ireland Chief Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick has appealed for any witnesses to contact detectives at Musgrave Street on the non emergency 101 number.
