HIQA inspection finds significant breaches at Roscommon nursing home

A HIQA inspection found there were inadequate shower and toilet facilities and staff shortages in a nursing home in Roscommon town.

HIQA's inspection of the Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon was carried out last March.

It found only eight staff were available for 93 elderly residents at night.

Some residents at the nursing home were sharing bedrooms with up to 10 others and HIQA inspectors identified significant breaches of residents' privacy and dignity in open wards.

HIQA also found inappropriate storage of medication in some units at the facility.
