A hand grenade was removed from Louth wasteland last night and taken to a secure military location to be destroyed by controlled explosion.

A hand grenade was removed from Louth wasteland last night and taken to a secure military location to be destroyed by controlled explosion.

The EOD squad were called to the O'Hanlon Park area of Dundalk at 7pm yesterday, following a request from Gardaí.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety, but the scene reopened before 8pm.
