His victim, Niamh Nic Dhomhnaill, this morning warned that such a sentence sends a clear message that rape is not being taken seriously enough.
"I think that's it's only fair that when you do wrong, you bear consequences of some sort," she said.
"And from what I understand, this has had no impact on his life.
"He's been able to be in, seemingly, a very committed relationship. He apparently has been in very steady employment the whole time - I haven't been able to work for quite some time. I've been physically unwell - it seems his life has continued.
"This was just a minor blip."
