Noonan: Greece needs to rebuild trust with EU

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan says trust needs to be rebuilt with the Greek government if any deal on a third bailout is to be made.

Eurozone finance ministers are gathering in Brussels this afternoon, in what is being billed as the final opportunity to avoid Greece crashing out of the eurozone.

Minister Noonan is among those discussing the latest proposals from Greece, which must be approved at tomorrow's summit of EU leaders.

He said this weekend's talks are about building bridges.

Mr Noonan said: "Trust was what the Irish programme and the Spanish programme and the Portuguese programme were built on.

"I think that trust now is being rebuilt in the relationship with Greece and I would hope that the trust will continue to be rebuilt today, that's pretty important also."
