Jury fail to reach a verdict for second day in Finglas murder trial

The jurors in the trial of a Finglas man accused of murdering his uncle have been sent home for a second evening after failing to reach a verdict.

They have been asked to consider whether David Cully of Kilsane Road was provoked into shooting Edward O’Connor in December 2013.

The Finglas man admits shooting him in the back as he walked away from a "straightener" - an organised fight to settle a disagreement - on the Ballycoolin Road.

However, he claims he was provoked after the victim made a comment about his sister.

If the jurors agree, he will be convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Deliberations resume tomorrow morning.
