Drogheda couple collect €500,000 Euromillions cheque

A young married couple from Drogheda, Co Louth won last night’s EuroMillions Plus top prize of €500,000.

They bought their one-line ticket with change left over from their shopping.

As they collected their cheque at National Lottery offices today, the lucky husband said: "I was buying the dinner last night and had €3 left in change.

"It was enough for one line for the EuroMillions and EuroMillions Plus draws, so I bought a ticket. I wouldn’t have bought one at all if it wasn’t for that!”

The winning ticket was bought in Dunnes Stores, Colpe Cross, Drogheda, Co Louth.

The happy couple said they could not believe their luck and will take some time to get used to their fantastic news before deciding how they will spend their winnings.

They wish to keep their identities private.

Today’s win is the third EuroMillions Plus top prize of €500,000 to be claimed in the first week of July.

Last week, a lucky family syndicate of five from Birr, Co Offaly collected their €500,000 prize. And on Monday of this week a West Dublin man collected his €500,000 prize, which he won last Friday.
