Four held after bomb found in Longford

Four men have been arrested and a bomb discovered as part of an investigation into dissident republicans in Longford.

A vehicle was stopped and searched at around 9pm last night in Forgney near Ballymahon.

The improvised device was found and the Army Bomb squad was called in. The device was made safe by 10.30pm.

Four men ranging in age from their late 20s to late 40s were arrested and are being held at various garda stations in Longford.

A follow-up search was carried out at a house and the scene there has been preserved for examination.
