Workers at Arnotts concerned by fate of Clerys workers, says Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has called on the Government to make sure that what happened to workers at Clerys cannot happen again.

Gerry Adams says workers at Arnotts in Dublin are concerned about their future, after the department store was sold at the end of last month.

Mr Adams has called on the Government to suspend all non-contracted sales of assets in NAMA until a review is carried out.

He told the Dáil that Arnotts workers are concerned.

"Noel Smyth, dare I say the name, now owns Arnotts," said Deputy Adams. "He controls Arnotts.

"And what, Taoiseach, is to stop him from doing at Arnotts what was done at Clerys?

"It's perfectly legal, under your flawed legislation, and workers at Arnotts are understandably concerned about this."
