Almost a third of Irish people check phone first thing, survey claims

Almost one in three (30%) of us admit to checking our phone when we wake up, even before kissing our partner.
Some 69% of Irish people say the most annoying smartphone habit is when friends use their phone while mid-conversation.
Other smartphone habits that drive us completely up the wall are: taking and sharing pictures of food on social media (35%); people bumping into you because they’re distracted by their phone (33%); playing music loudly in public (24%), and the ‘selfie’ (23%).
When asked about how often they check their beloved smartphone, 16% admit to looking at their phone too many times to count.
Half of respondents to the Jurys Inn survey admitted to stealing cheeky glances at their phone more than 10 times a day, with 11% checking it 50+ times to make sure they haven’t missed any texts or tweets.
Not only are we obsessed with keeping our gadgets within arm’s reach, more than 1 in 5 of us (22%) feel guilty about how much we use our phones and wish we could kick the habit.
