Boy in critical condition after Athlone river accident

A teenager is in a critical condition in hospital after being rescued from the River Shannon in Athlone.

The 14-year-old got into difficulty at about 5.45pm and emergency services were called to the scene.

He has been removed to Portiuncla Hospital, Ballinasloe where he is receiving treatment tonight.
