Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after a 25-year-old man died in west Dublin following a mass fight involving members of the Traveller community.

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after a 25-year-old man died in west Dublin following a mass fight involving members of the Traveller community.

The man sustained fatal stab wounds during a fracas centring on a house in Palmerstown.

It is understood a violent disturbance involving large crowds broke out in the area on Kennelsfort Road shortly after 3.30am.

A man in his mid-30s was arrested at the scene and remains in custody at Ballyfermot Garda station.

Four men were admitted to hospital. Two were taken to Tallaght hospital and two to Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown.

The victim died in Connolly hospital.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident or anyone who was on the road between 3.30am and 4am to come forward.
