Some 2.2 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport last month, making it the the busiest May ever in the 75-year history of the airport.

The latest figures from the Dublin Airport Authority show passenger numbers grew by 13% with an extra 1.2 million passengers arriving and departing from the airport.

The figures also show nine million people have used the airport since the start of the year with passenger volumes to North America and the Middle East up.

A spokesperson for the DAA welcomed the figures and said every one million additional passengers supports more than 1,000 extra jobs in the industry.
