Penalty points for drivers who break Luas red lights

Drivers caught breaking red lights at Luas tracks in Blackhall Place in Dublin will automatically receive three penalty points from now on.
The Transport Minister today launched the country's first automated red light camera at the junction of Blackhall Place and Benburb street Luas tracks.
He says if it is successful, it could be rolled out elsewhere.
Dave Rooney is incident manager with TransDev the Luas operator.
He says there are huge risks with breaking red lights at the tram tracks.
"It can range from a minor inconvenience, and an expensive one for the road user, right through to something very tragic," said Mr Rooney.
"The red light camera project is about trying to prevent any of these incidents happening in the future."
