Current HSE management 'cannot be trusted' with maternity investigation

A mother who's baby girl died at Portlaoise hospital has said that current HSE management cannot be trusted to implement the changes required from a HIQA investigation into the maternity unit there.

Amy Delahunt is one of a number of parents outlining their cases to the Oireachtas Health Committee.

Advocacy Group Patient Focus has told the Committee it has assisted 200 families who have had issues with their maternity care.

Amy Delahunt's daughter died in 2013. She said that she has no faith in HSE management to implement the necessary changes in Portlaoise.

"As the mother of Mary-Kate, who died in May 2013, we demand to know how her avoidable death, and those of others were allowed to happen," said Ms Delahunt.

"This HSE management team is clearly incapable and cannot be trusted to implement the recommendations of this or previous HIQA reports."
