TD accuses HSE of "systematic intentional cover up"

A Government TD has accused the HSE of a "systematic intentional cover up" over maternity services at the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

The Oireachtas Health Committee has been hearing from parents of babies that died at the facility in recent years.

The Director General of the HSE is due to appear before the committee later this afternoon.

Deputy Regina Doherty has said that she is ashamed at the treatment of people by the HSE.

"The systems failure and the processes failure would be bad enough in itself if there was not a systematic, intentional cover-up over the last four years by every level of organisation in the HSE," said Deputy Doherty.

"I am ashamed on so many levels as to how people have been treated."
