Undercover survey finds sunbed age laws are working
An undercover shopper survey has found that new laws banning under-18s from using sunbeds appear to be working.
The Irish Cancer Society carried out the survey in the Dublin region during March. It revealed that all salons visited told a fair-skinned 17-year-old girl that she could not use a sunbed, because of the rule brought in last July.
However, they found that two of the five salons surveyed had price-based promotions for discounted minutes.
That is despite the second phase of the Public Health Sunbeds Act 2014, which came into effect in March 2015, making such promotions illegal.
