Bus worker unions due at LRC for talks ahead of planned strike action

Unions representing drivers at Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus will return to the talks table at the Labour Relations Commission later.

It is in an attempt to hammer out a deal ahead of planned strike action on Friday and Saturday of this week.

The dispute centres on the Government and National Transport Authorities' plans to privatise 10% of the two companies' routes and unions want long-term guarantees about their security of tenure.

Chambers Ireland is calling on all parties to urgently find a resolution.

Director of Policy and Communications, Mark O'Mahony, says no one benefits from the discommoding of more than a million people.

Mr O'Mahony said: "We welcome the latest move by the Labour Relations Commission to bring the parties back in for a new round of negotiations.

"The reality is that nobody benefits from a prolonged periods of industrial action and we believe that it is in the interests of both parties to get back to the table and engage constructively and proactively to reach a resolution."
