Europe Day celebrations marked in Ireland

A number of events are taking place around the country today to mark Europe Day.

Tomorrow is the official celebration date which marks the 65th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which set out the creation of the modern-day European Union.

2015 also marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the blue EU flag with gold stars, by the European Commission.

Ruth Deasy of the European Commission says the highlight of the Irish Europe-Day celebrations will be a free party of European food at the EU office on Dawson Street Dublin starting at 12.30pm.

She said there will be food on offer from all European nations, as well as a performance of African music and dance to tie in with the European year of development.
