Govt efforts to tackle climate change branded 'weak'
Ireland's efforts to tackle climate change have been labelled "weak" and "half-hearted" in a new report.
Stop Climate Chaos says the Irish Government is struggling to meet its climate change commitments and when compared to countries like Norway, Finland and the UK - Ireland is lagging behind.
Spokesperson Oisín Coughlan says the Irish Climate Change Bill is missing some key elements.
He said: "So the EU gives us short-term targets, when you are doing your own bill, they are putting in a target of 2050, a vision for where Ireland would get to.
"Fossil-free or decarbonisation, usually expressed as a percentage of reductions of pollution. The Irish Government bill doesn't have that, they regard that, when they compare it to other countries, as a really critical weakness."
