Survey finds €1,000 cost to being a wedding guest

A new survey has found that we pay €1,000 just to be guests at a wedding - or €2,000 if you are part of a couple.

The research by the online wedding magazine "onefabday" finds that men spend a bit more, at €1,080 per wedding, with female guests a little lower at €960.

It found the biggest cost overall was the stag night, averaging around €400.

A typical wedding gift will cost around €250 per couple, with single people getting stung by paying around €150.

It also found that country people are more generous than city folk, with people more generous at rural weddings than for Dublin couples.

Both men and women spend around €250 on their outfit.
