A man has been found shot dead in north Dublin.

A man has been found shot dead in north Dublin.

Gardai said the discovery was made in Church Avenue in the Drumcondra area of the city - just yards from the Cat and Cage Pub - at about 11.30am today.

Forensic teams have been called in, and the garda helicopter is in operation.

Witness reports said two burned-out cars were on the road near where the body was found.

It is understood a shooting occurred in the area at the rear of the old All Hallows college.

Church Avenue between Grace Park Road and the main Drumcondra Road was sealed off, with firefighters on the scene.

A burned -out car was found close by.

There are reports that a second man was injured, although this has not been confirmed by gardaí.

The shooting happened in a busy residential street. A number of local were in the area at the time.

One said: "I heard five shots in quick succession". Another said: "It's full of students here, but it's very quiet. Even the pub is quiet….Nothing really goes on here."
