Details of Saturday's water protest announced

The Right2Water Campaign has announced the plans for its National Anti-Water charge demonstration on Saturday.

The event, which is expected to attract thousands of people, will assemble at 1pm in three locations in Dublin: Heuston Station, Connolly Station and Merrion Square.

It will then converge on O’Connell Bridge and will conclude with a rally on O’Connell Street.

The organisers say it will conclude as close to 2.30pm as possible, to facilitate those who wish to watch Ireland’s final Six Nations Rugby International against Scotland - which kicks off at 2.30pm.

Right2Water says it expects tens of thousands of people to attend.

People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd-Barrett says the demonstration will send a strong message.

"There'll be a big rally at the top of O'Connell Street where there will be speakers an music - a message about the next step for the campaign," he said.

"[It will] say they haven’t done enough - we want these charges scrapped."
