Gardaí are investigating an armed robbery at a supermarket in Co Meath this evening.

It happened at around 6.20pm, when a man entered the premises in Dunboyne, threatened staff and demanded money.

He was armed with what is believed to be a firearm.

The man left the scene with a sum of cash in a black car, and headed towards Summerhill, Co Meath.

He was eventually stopped by Gardaí from Ashbourne a short while later. A firearm and cash were recovered in the car.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and he is being held at Ashbourne Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
