Around 3,000 homes are without power this morning after strong winds battered the country overnight.

Around 3,000 homes are without power this morning after strong winds battered the country overnight.

The main outages reported by ESB are across the west in Limerick, Kerry, Clare, Mayo, Donegal, Roscommon, Cork and some homes are also out in north Dublin.

ESB crews are working to reconnect the homes this morning.

Met Éireann has weather alerts in place until 10am today, warning of winds with gusts of up to 130 kms in western coastal areas. Elsewhere, gusts of up to 110kms are likely.

The Road Safety Authority is advising extreme care, with motorists advised to look out for debris on roads.

Drivers are also being warned to give extra space to cyclists and motorcyclists who may be blown off course due to high winds.
