Noonan meeting with fellow finance ministers over Greek debt

The Eurozone's technical working group is meeting in Brussels to discuss any progress made in talks with the Troika over the weekend.

The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan will then meet with Eurozone finance ministers on how to deal with Greece's debt problem.

Sources say that a wide gulf still exists between the Syriza led Greek government and the troika about how much reform is necessary, and at what cost.

Finance ministers from the Eurogroup, including Ireland, Spain and Finland are anxious that Greece repay in full the debt it received as part of its €240 billion bailout, some of which comes from every eurozone state.

Any fundamental changes to the bailout would have to be passed through Eurozone parliaments and possibly the German constitutional court – something everybody wants to avoid, not least because of the time constraints that exist, as the Greek bailout is due to expire in 12 days.

Today' Eurogroup meeting begins at 2pm Irish time, and is expected to continue into the early hours of the morning.
