Teachers unions say they are open to further talks, but that a strike remains on the cards following the rejection of new proposals to reform the Junior Cert.

The Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan says the proposed document goes a long way to framing a fair and equitable solution" to "the implementation of Junior Cycle reform.

However, teachers unions say they still have serious concerns to raise with Dr. Pauric Travers, who wrote the draft document.

TUI President Gerry Quinn says further talks will have to take place before any resolution can be brought about:
