Trade unions launch yes campaign for same-sex marriage

Trade Unions are today launching their campaign for a yes vote in the upcoming same-sex marriage referendum.

ICTU is supporting the "Trade Unionists for Civil Marriage Equality" campaign.

The event in Liberty Hall in Dublin this evening is open to all to attend, with the Dublin's Gay Men's Chorus performing as part of the launch.

Ethel Buckley from the ICTU Executive Council said she hopes their members and all workers will engage with the campaign.

"We don't see the civil marriage referendum a s a gay or straight issues - we see it as an issue of fundamental rights - as a civil rights issue," she said.

"We want to people to have conversations at work about the referendum in May."
