The Union of Students in Ireland is launching its annual Sexual Health and Guidance campaign.

Third level students are being encouraged to practice safe sex and get tested for STIs.

SHAG packs will be given out in colleges around the country, and free tests are also being made available.

USI Vice President for Welfare, Greg O'Donoghue, said SHAG week promotes a safe and healthy attitude towards sex.

"[It's] intended to raise awareness of sexual health among students. We hope that those who are sexually active will have enjoyable, consensual, safer sex - and will get tested often for STIs," he said.

As part of the campaign, there will be free clinics for STI testing in DIT and IT Carlow next week.
