Gardaí investigating last Thursday's fatal shooting of Benjamin (Benny) Whitehouse at Clonard Street, Balbriggan, Co Dublin have arrested a man this morning.

Gardaí investigating last Thursday's fatal shooting of Benjamin (Benny) Whitehouse at Clonard Street, Balbriggan, Co Dublin have arrested a man this morning.

Benjamin Whitehouse was shot dead in broad daylight at Clonard Street in Balbriggan on September 25, 2014.

He had just dropped his child off at St Peter and Paul's National School nearby.

His partner - who was with him - was shot in the leg.

A 39-year-old was arrested in Ardee, Co Louth and is currently being detained at Balbriggan Garda Station under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Investigating gardaí have previously appealed for witnesses to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01-802 0510, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
