Historic grenade found during excavation in Co Wexford

An army bomb disposal team has made safe an historic grenade in Co Wexford.

They were called in after a suspect device was found during excavation work on a private house in the townland Ford of Lyng near Rosslare Strand.

The team arrived on scene at 4.30 pm and safely transported the device to an open beach area to conduct a controlled explosion.

The Mills grenade is from the early 20th century and was used during the War of Independence, the Civil War and World Wars 1 and 2.

This is the second call out to such a grenade in 3 days.
