Minister confident Irish Water will pass EU test

A Minister has today played down fears that Irish Water could fail a vital EU test.

If that happens, the Government may be forced into an embarrassing mini-Budget later in the year.

However, Jobs Minister Richard Bruton says he is confident that Irish Water will still pass the test.

"The Minister has expressed his confidence that this will pass the market test," he said.

"We have provided certainty for people in respect of their bills. For a single adult household, it will be €1.15 per week, for two adults or more it will be €3 per week.

"That gives people certainty, they know exactly where they stand."

Earlier today, Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD said that the revised water charges package is now "in serious doubt".
