Man dies in Monaghan road incident

A 70-year-old man has died in a road crash in Co. Monaghan.

It happened near Castleblaney on the Ballybay to Carrickmacross Rd - about six miles from Ballybay - shortly before 6pm yesterday evening.

The man was injured after the car he was driving hit a tractor pulling a feeder.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The 54-year-old tractor driver was uninjured in the incident.

The stretch of road is closed this morning and Gardaí at Carrickmacross are appealing for witnesses.
