Cabinet to consider childcare costs

A fresh attempt to tackle high Ireland's childcare costs is to go to cabinet tomorrow.

Children's Minister James Reilly is reportedly proposing a seven-department committee to tackle the issue, which would report back by the summer.

According to the Irish Independent, the new proposals also suggest tax breaks and subsidies to support the cost.

The OECD last year found families with two children are spending 40% of their average wage on childcare in Ireland.

That's the highest level among all 34 OECD member states.
