A woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of her daughter in Co. Offaly.

A woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of her daughter in Co. Offaly.

Emily Barut, who had cerebral palsy and was in a wheelchair, was found dead at her home in Tullamore on September 15, 2012.

Detective Sergeant Jer Glavin of Tullamore Garda Station told this morning's sitting of the town's district court that Dr Bernadette Scully was arrested at her home at Emvale, Bachelor's Walk in Tullamore at 9.40am this morning.

The 56-year-old made no reply when the charge was read to her.

Judge Catherine Staines remanded Dr Scully to the Dóchas Centre in Dublin to appear before Tullamore District Court again this Wednesday.

Solicitor for the accused Patricia Cronin told the court that an application for legal aid will be made at a future hearing while Judge Staines agreed to an application that medical assessment be carried out while she is in custody.
