Seven seriously injured in collision in Co Kildare

Update: Four women have died.

Seven people have been injured in a collision near Athy in Co Kildare.

A car and a van collided shortly before 10pm at Birdtown, around 3 miles from Junction 3 on the M9, heading for Athy N78.

Five women and two men were seriously injured and have taken to Naas General hospital.

The road is closed facilitate a Forensic Collision Examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them in Athy.
