HSE 'to review case of Cobh father' after tragic deaths

The Health Service Executive is reportedly set to review the case of Cork man Michael Greaney - who died alongside his wife on Sunday - less than two months after leaving the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin.

The couple's eldest daughter remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital after being injured in the incident in Cobh.

Michael Greaney, 53, was found dead alongside his wife Valerie - aged 49 - at their home in O'Neils Place in Cobh on Sunday afternoon.

It has now emerged that the physiotherapist had been involved in litigation with three different banks and feared he could lose the family home over his debts.

He had battled mental health issues and had spent some time at the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin.

A decision was made at the end of October to release him back to the family home in Cobh.

According to this morning's Irish Independent, a full-scale review of his treatment will now be carried out.

Post mortems were carried out on the couple yesterday.

They revelaed Mr Greaney died from a single stab wound that pierced his heart, while his wife suffered several stab wounds

The couple's eldest daughter was also seriously injured in the incident.

She remains in hospital where her condition is described as being serious but stable.
