Three arrested for possession of explosives in Co Meath
Three men have been arrested after what's believed to be explosives were found in two cars in Co Meath.
They were detained after an ongoing investigation into dissident republican activities in the border and midlands region by members of the Garda Special Detective Unit, and the Crime and Security Branch.
After the cars were searched, the army bomb squad was called in.
Two men, aged 42 and 49, were initially arrested and taken to Drogheda Garda station.
In a follow up search of a house in Mullingar, a 48-year-old man was detained and taken to Tullamore Garda station.
All three are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
The items seized are currently being examined by the Garda Technical Bureau.
